Bungles to Kununurra

Day 15 Friday 11th May
Bungles to Kununurra
Our return flight to Kununurra this morning was scheduled for 7am with Slingair. I was up early as again I couldn't sleep so went outside to check out the sunrise.

We were packed ready to leave before heading in for breakfast at 6am. Once again Fran had excelled herself with her cooked breakfast.

We flew over the two camps EKT and APT

On our way back to Kununurra we flew over the Argyle Diamond Mine. Hopefully next time we will get to tour the mine

and Lake Argyle

By 9am we were back in Kununurra following another great flight with great views of the Bungles. We stopped off at Shoal Air as I had lost my clip on sunnies the previous day with no success. Rocking up at the caravan park at 9.30 we didn’t expect to be able to get access to our cabin so were pleasantly surprised when they allowed us access to our cabin.

We decided to head out to the Zebra Rock Gallery on Packsaddle Road.

Apparently access to the zebra rock has not been possible due to the rock being under water following the heavy rains they have experienced. A gold coin donation secured us some bread to feed the catfish.

Not sure how to spend the rest of our unexpected free time so we went to the tourist information centre, unfortunately they were not overly helpful. Since we were running low on cash we went to the commonwealth to get some money and the lady at the information desk was extremely helpful and suggested we visit the Sandlewood factory.
We went out to the Sandlewood factory

where we had lunch –pasta carbonara, iced coffee and a chocolate milkshake, yum. I didn’t realize the sandlewood factory sold basically what amounted to cosmetic and personal hygiene products. I expected to see carved wood, sigh. The young girl serving us at the sandalwood factory was pleasant, efficient and enthusiastic about things to do and see in the area around Kununurra and also El Questro.
Our next port of call was the Hoochery,

where Mark tried two different rums and a mango liuquer. We purchased a ½ bottle of Mango Liquer for the princely sum of $47. We arrived back in town by 2.30. Mark bought me a beautiful gold boab tree charm complete with a champagne & white diamond from Nina’s, a stunning momento of our trip. After what was supposed to be a quick shop for dinner we ended up buying supplies for our three days at El Questro before heading back to the caravan park and a relaxing afternoon. We set up deck chairs out on the lawn to watch the sunset.

Unfortunately sunset was a bust but we still enjoyed a glass of wine looking over Lake Kununurra and the Sleeping Buddha.
