Kununurra to El Questro

Day 16 Saturday 12th May
Kununurra to El Questro
Odometer 20950  Temp 27
After the disappointment of the sunset the night before I decided to make the most of being up way too early and take some sunrise photos from just in front of our cabin at the caravan park

Despite our disappointment of not hearing anything from Alligator air we decided to make the most of things and head up to Wyndham and visit the crocodile farm. We arrived at the farm at 10.45 which turned out to be perfect as they feed the crocodiles once a day at 11am and that is the only time you can visit. Entry was $18pp.
This wee little frog jumped on my leg whilst the tour guide was chatting about the park before the tour and scared the beejeebers out of me

A group of 28 followed the keeper around as he hand fed the crocodiles and  he explained a little bit about where they were caught and how they came to be named.

The tour lasted a little under 1 ½ hours. It was difficult to see each crocodile clearly and get good photos but we managed to get into the front of the group later in the tour.

On the way out they had these signs about crocodile fatalities in Australia

We had lunch at the Wyndham Town Hotel $15 for barra & chips or a chicken burger you couldn't jump over.

It had been recommended by friends to go up to the five rivers lookout. We passed some larger than life size sculptures of aborginals and native animals 'Dreamtime Statues' on the way so stopped and took photos.

Mark was going to take on this Kangaroo

I can’t say I was fussed by the lookout. Neither of us took any photos just a short video. Maybe it would look more impressive at a different tide level. Back in town we took the obligatory photo of the crocodile
This 20m long crocodile statue is a friendly reminder for all who come to town that there are crocodiles in our waters!

before continuing out of town to the Afghan Cemetary. Not much to see there. If it wasn’t for the sign you wouldn’t have known what it was.
The graves are quite large, due to the lead camel being buried alongside its master.
As we continued south our next stop was the Grotto (2kms sealed road). To reach the pool you had to walk down a number of steps. No way Mark was going to let me walk down any of the steps to see if I could get a better view. I'm sure it would be lovely in summer but not really worth the side trip if you didn't have time to explore.

We eventually made it onto the Gibb River Road where we passed this sign

Our final destination was the station at El Questro. As we turned into the road that leads to the station there were two wallabies sitting beside the road.

We had two reasonable size water crossings to traverse to get into the station which we did with ease as

neither were overly deep, the deepest being approximately 45cm. When we arrived there was a message for me. My girls had organised flowers for Mothers Day (the next day) to be delivered from Kununurra to El Questro (at no charge as they already deliver there regularly).
My beautiful flowers from my girls for Mothers Day added something special to our room
Our room had a balcony which overlooked the creek

We had bought sufficient food for two of our three main meals. The restaurant is closed Saturday nights and they have a BBQ at the main bar we decided to eat the BBQ. Neither of us were overly excited by the dinner menu in the restaurant.
