El Questro to Fitzroy Crossing

Day 19 Tuesday 15th May
El Questro to Fitzroy Crossing
Odometer 21300 Total Mileage  Temp 26
Since we had a long drive ahead of us we decided to have an early breakfast in the restaurant. I had an Egg & Bacon Focaccia with tomato & cheese and Mark had steak, eggs, hashbrown, mushrooms, & toast with a side order of bacon. A pineapple juice and two coffees was $44. Once again we had kingfishers for company.

Mark went to settle the bill only to find we hadn’t prepaid our accommodation as we had thought. We didn't purchase any fuel before we left as it was $2.07L for diesel and we still had 40L in the car.We were on the road by 8.30 as we had a long drive ahead of us. As we left one of the two donkey's wandered onto the road

We crossed the little Pentecost River

and the other river crossing for the last time

I spotted these two beautiful boabs on our way to the Great Northern Road

By 9.40 we had made it to the Great Northern Road. A large wedge tail eagle was snacking on a roo, but flew off before we could get a photo. The trip was proving to be uneventful. A quick stop at the Turkey creek roadhouse to see if there was any information about the previous owners Bob & Norma Wainwright, then back on the road . Diesal was $2L so once again we didn't purchase any. Mark bought a 600ml coffee milk for $5.50. On the way north he had bought two 600ml flavoured milks for $5.75 in Hall’s Creek. We passed a number of horses beside the road on three separate occasions, but were going too fast to get any photos. We had some phone service for about ten minutes so made the most of the opportunity to phone home.We had made it to Halls Creek by 12.55. Mark checked out the IGA again and bought some cereal and milk. Next stop was fuel at the shell. We decided to have lunch in the car outside the tourist information centre. We had left over chicken, pasta salad and cheese. The fridge was obviously set at too low a temperature as both the ham and pasta salad were frozen. I took photos of the Russian Jack statue and the grounds of the information centre.

We were back on the road by 1.50. On our way north I had noticed numerous termite mounds ranging in all sizes from large to this field of small ones. I decided to take a photo as we headed back south.

We arrived at Fitzroy Crossing by 4.30 so decided to check out the town, not much to see. The post office was still open so we paid our two speeding fines. Some children put some tacks on the ground behind our tyres, luckily we caught them and were able to remove them before we drove off. Check in at the Fitzroy Safari Lodge was quick. I had sufficient time to unpack the car then take some sunset shots

before heading up to the bar for dinner.
